IMR E Brake Van
The original prototype full-size IMR E Brake Vans were supplied by Metropolitan Railway Carriage & Wagon Company Ltd over a number of years - two in 1873, two in 1874, two in 1876 and one in 1894 (to replace one of the vans supplied in 1873 which had been severely damaged). A further example was built in-house by the Railway in 1895 using some of the parts from the severely damaged van.
The E Brake Vans initially were used mainly on passenger services to provide both luggage space and train braking under control of the guard. With the arrival of larger bogie carriage stock, the E vans were relegated to secondary functions, many losing their lookout duckets and being used to carry parcels or general goods. In their final years, some of their bodies were removed to be used as goods stores at a number of the stations.
Our All Grey liveried model of the IMR E Brake Van is produced as a very Limited Edition ready-to-run model by Accucraft Trains.
